This morning it was still frosty underfoot and during the night it was -2° however in the last couple of weeks we have had some beautiful sunshine, clear fresh days , drinks in the garden all pointing to the fact that Spring is here and hopefully we will soon be open. It is looking a little like this time last year and we don’t think we will be able to open the campsite and bar for Easter which is a huge disappointment. I will still start the preparation and the dreaded spring cleaning in the bar just as I do every March, then there will be no last minute panics (of course there will!!).

I always find it typical that I am not able to get in the garden until now and the moment the sun comes out it is time for me to get in the bar – for those of you who haven’t been here our bar is a huge high ceilinged converted barn so this is no ordinary spring clean. It starts with scaffolding to brush the cobwebs from the beams and walls and give the lights a bit of a wash. Then it takes a few hours everyday to clean fridges, tables, floors, windows and this year obviously we will be making sure we have all our Covid protocols in place.

Outside also gets a jetwash and the decking gets a new coat of stain. Thanks to our large outdoor spaces the bar was popular last year with the locals as well as the holidaymakers and owners so we are hoping for a repeat this year.

Despite the cold weather Pete has been able to play golf most weeks at Bressuire golf club. I did join him last week week just for 9 holes. And although the 19th hole is still closed I had a lovely morning. For any golfers amongst you it is only 30 minutes from the campsite and for anyone who would like to try the golf pro is English so no problems with the language – just swinging the club and hitting the ball 🙂

So hurry up everyone, get your vaccines, get all the post Brexit paperwork sorted and we will be ready when you are.

Stay Safe
